LYNDELL T. MCDONALD

A native of Montgomery, AL. Lyndell T. McDonald currently serves as Assistant Professor and Technical Director for Dance at the Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Alabama. For the past two decades he has served   as lighting designer and technical director for all UA dance productions including the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre.

 

To support ongoing training and technical development  he is also a member the IATSE local 78 stage union and has preferred concentrations in lighting design and electronics.

His broad professional portfolio includes serving as the stage and scenic designer for the 2022 World Games, specifically the opening and closing ceremonies.

 

In addition to his local work, Lyndell has previously served as the guest lighting designer for Contemporary Choreographers Collective (COCO) Dance Festival in Trinidad and Tobago and for American College Dance Association South-West Region Conference at Texas Tech University. His local dance credits include, serving as Lighting Designer for the Birmingham Ballet, Birmingham Dance Theatre, NS Studio and the Pointe Dance Arts all located in Central Alabama.

 

His theatrical design credits include: The Color Purple, LaRonde, She Loves Me, Launch Day and Romeo and Juliet just to name a few. He has also produced work for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Alabama State University, American Ballet Theatre, Opera Birmingham, Revival Theatre Company, Theatre Tuscaloosa and more.

 

Lyndell holds a BA and an MFA in Design and Technical Production from The University of Alabama. In addition to his academic and performing arts experience, Lyndell also owns an event lighting and production company, 2L7 LLC.. The company manages and designs lighting and décor for special events including: formal galas, fundraisers and weddings. 2L7 provides clients with professional knowledge and expertise that immediately enhance any event or production.
